What happened to Project Nimbus?

The Nimbus beta project has been re-lanuched as Alike. The beta program ran from August to January of 2009. We appreciate all our Beta users who helped make the program a success!

What are the system requirements for running Alike?

Alike itself runs on most flavors of Windows (XP Pro, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2003, Server 2008) and is compatible with both 32 and 64 bit Operating Systems. Alike is very efficient and requires little in the way of memory, or CPU, but will require sufficient free disk space to work.

What versions of XenServer does Alike work with?

Alike requires at least v5.5 for full support. XenServer 5.0 will also work, if your SR backend supports snapshots.

What guest VM Operating Systems does Alike support?

Alike will work with any Operating System that can run on XenServer. As long as its supported by Xen, it's supported by Alike.

Do I need to install anything on XenServer in order to run Alike?

No. Alike connects to XenServer via the XenServer API. Unlike other products and solutions, there's nothing to install on Dom0.

Does Alike work with other virtualization technology like VMWare or Microsoft's Hyper-V?

Can my virtual machine be online during the backup window?

Yes. Your virtual machines can be powered on and running during a backup, and they will be none the wiser. Because standard Xen snapshots are used, backups are performed against the snapshot data, which is a single point in time of the actual VM. In order for the snapshot to be crash consistent, your guest VMs must have the Citrix VSS provider installed.
