failed Xen: XXX is running on an undefined host: aa.bb.cc. Please check the Alike's host settings.
Rarely, a backup job will fail if due to DNS configuration issues. If you receive the following message in our Activity Log:failed Xen: XXX is running on an undefined host: aa.bb.cc. Please check the Alike's host settings.
(XXX is your Guest VM, and aa.bb.cc is a DNS name that Alike cannot resolve).
This means Alike cannot determine the host on which the Guest is running.
1) Check your DNS entries for the Host and make sure they resolve to the correct IP. They must resolve correctly from the machine that is running Alike.
2) Check the hostname value of the Host. The hostname can be configured from XenCenter or from within the Dom0 console under /etc/hostname. Make sure this hostname value is valid and correct.
If you are still having trouble, you may verify that your connection to the XenServer Host is otherwise correct by switching from a DNS name to the IP address. Simply reconfigure the Host address under Settings-->Virtualization Settings. If the job runs normally, it probably means DNS is not set up right.
